Spring-like weather in the middle of January ("Winter Heat Wave"), record high temperatures, record low temperatures, record drought, record floods. The Pacific Northwest is under water. The worst flooding ever. Hurricane Katrina was the worst [un?]natural disaster in American history. The global weather patterns are becoming unstable and erratic. Polar bears are drowning because there is too much open ocean and not enough ice to climb up on and rest when they get tired from swimming. They swim to hunt for sea creatures to eat. *************************************************** BOTH Polar Ice Caps are MELTING. UPDATED 3/27/06 < Previously I had written that Antarctica was growing slightly. New verified data shows that both ice caps are melting. A 100-square mile chunk of the Antarctic Ice Cap recently broke off as "the edge of Antarctica melts faster than scientists had expected" I think that's pretty obvious "data." It won't mean diddly-squat if (when?) those very large glaciers crumble into the ocean at the North and South Poles. Climatologists already KNOW how serious and immediate the danger is, but we are not being told. After all, why start a panic just because there will probably be major global disaster(s) with massive flooding and millions of deaths within 10 years or so? Global Warming is real, it's VERY serious and it's acellerating. It seems we won't take it seriously until it bites us in the ass. We have to stop burning oil and coal to produce energy. No offense intended to "iceagenow" but this is a dangerous "head in the sand" attitude that can delay needed action long enough to get us all killed. It shows that the shift is more proof of Global Warming. The rising ocean levels are mediated by just a tiny percentage by the increasing Antarctic Ice. We have a very big problem on our hands. From what I've read years ago I estimate that the time to move to avoid calamity was about 20 to 30 years ago. I know I sound like the Harbinger of Doom, but we really are in deep trouble. Fresh water from the melting ice thins out our oceans' salt levels. Desalination is changing the temperature of key areas of our oceans that control the temperature of our land masses. The prevaling winds over North America and especially Europe will become significantly colder. The paradox here is that global warming can cause an Ice Age. El Nino means "Little Boy," but that little boy has a big impact on our climate. The movie, "The Day After Tomorrow" [probably] exaggerates the rapididy of the effect of ocean desalination on global climate, but there is indeed a Mastodon on display in the NY Museam of Natural History that was instantly frozen at the beginning of the last Ice Age. What if the movie is more correct than exaggerated? The more the ice melts, the faster the remaining ice melts, because the white ice and snow reflects heat from the sun back into space. Less Polar ice cap, more heat absorbtion. Frog species are becoming extinct because too much ultraviolet radiation is getting through our thinning Ozone layer. If the greedy land developers hadn't filled in the ponds and swamps where I caught frogs when I was a kid, the UV radiation would have probably killed them by now anyway. Life on land could not exist without the protection of the Ozone layer. It is believed that this was the case a couple billion years ago until primitive coral/plants shielded from UV by the ocean they grew in released what for them was a waste product - OXYGEN. (Just as plankton does today.) The oxygen rose to the upper atmosphere where bombardment by UV and other radiation ionized it into O3, or Ozone. As the Ozone disappears, more and more land species will disappear. We will have to wear space suits outdoors to protect ourselves from the deadly Ultraviolet radiation from our sun. Since no life will be able to survive direct sunlight without the Ozone layer filtering out UV radiation, there won't be any food to eat so we'll all be dead anyway. It's not feasible to build "indoor" farms, either. Too much land would need to be enclosed and protected - and the Earth's weather patterns will be going berserk on top of that. Our global weather patterns are becoming more erratic and unpredictable. The weather has indeed beern wild all over the world. A February snowstorm here in New York had a eye like a hurricane and LIGHTNING AND THUNDER accompanied it. Lightning and Thunder during a snow storm? Time Magazine's cover story is about Global Warming, "Be Worried. Be VERY Worried," it reads. *************************************************** Here in the Northeast on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, we had hurricane-force winds that reached 70 MPH in some places. Power lines and trees were knocked down and hundreds of thousands of people lost electricity. There were numerous injuries and one death. The "January Heat Wave" is returning to the Tri-State NY area, with above normal temperatures expected for today, January 19 and another spring-like day expected for tomorrow with temperatrures approaching sixty degrees. On January 20. Imagine a day when storm clouds suddenly roll in and bombard us with baseball-sized hail, then tremendous bolts of lightning join in to wreak terrible destruction for five minutes, then five minutes later the sky is cloudless and the temperature is 85 degrees. In February. Pollution, such as oil spills and the dumping of toxic waste in our oceans is killing the plankton. Planton forms the basis of our planet's food supply and it also produces 60% to 90% of the Earth's oxygen. At the end of Steven Seagal's action movie, "On Dangerous Ground" he makes a brief speech that contains perhaps the most important words ever spoken in a major motion picture. Yes, he's an action hero in a shoot-em-up action movie, but the message is real. It's s warning we should LISTEN to before it's too late. "Terrorism" is the least of our worries. 1. Pollution is killing the oceans' plankton, destroying our food supply and choking off our oxygen. 2. Greenhouse gases are causing Global Warming that may cause another Ice Age, flood a good deal of the land masses of our planet and/or cause terrible storms and other unpredictable weather events that can and will devastate all the species on Earth, including Man. 3. The Ozone Layer is being eaten away by pollutants, including but not limited to Fluorocarbons. 4. Our elected officials do nothing about it and the oil companies and industries keep on doing it so we all die [not too much] later so they can make more money now. Alternative energy systems, free energy receivers, magnetic "perpetual motion" motors and other devices really have been invented, but as Seagal says, you don't know about them because they would put the oil companies out of business.
